Canadian Adventure Camp
who to look out for:
Justin
Role: Camp Director
here's what they had to say about their camp:
"Canadian Adventure Camp is a privately owned traditional camp in Northern Ontario. We are an island based camp on the beautiful Lake Temagami for boys and girls aged 5-17 years of age. At CAC, we have a number speciality programs for campers in Gymnastics, Aerials, Trampoline and Waterski/Wakeboard where children can spend half their day training in their chosen speciality. Campers can also choose to be general campers and try all activities during the day.
Our private setting provides a uniquely warm and inclusive environment for campers to feel safe, welcome and part of a community.
Our goal every summer is to help young people grow into responsible, well-rounded citizens by expanding their skills and knowledge within the fun and friendship of a warm camp atmosphere. At the end of their camp experience we want campers to leave not only with fond memories and firm friendships, but also a variety of valuable life skills to lay the ground work for their future."
what is your favourite thing about camp?
We’re an island based camp so the secluded feel is really special. Getting away from everyday life and being surrounded by a beautiful lake is amazing.
what are three qualities you look for in a staff member?
- Maturity, child focused and open mindedness. Our staff are typically older than some other camps so we look to hire those that have a mature, responsible nature.
- Camp is all about the campers. We strive to give children an incredible experience at camp that allows them to grow and develop. We look for staff who’s focus will be on the campers and making their stay at CAC one to remember.
- Camp can be a big culture shock to those not used to it, especially international staff. Things will seem strange to begin with, but with an open mind we’re sure you’ll love it like we do!
what do you wish people knew about your camp before coming to speak to you at the fair?
"We have a no technology policy at CAC. While you will still be able to contact home or register for university courses, contact will be limited during the summer. We want our staff to really be in present and fully embrace camp life.
Our general counsellors are fully trained in all general activity areas (archery, sports, canoe etc.) in order to be able to run these activities themselves throughout the summer. It’s great to be able to have a varied day, teaching lots of different activities to campers.
All general counsellors will be required to pass the Bronze Cross lifeguarding course."
