Stay Active

Travelling doesn't have to mean sacrificing fitness. Instead, ditch public transport and taxis where possible. Embrace the opportunity to explore on foot or by bike. Not only will you get your daily dose of exercise, but you'll also unlock a unique perspective on your destination and save the planet whilst you’re at it. If you’re more of an adventure seeker, challenge yourself to a hike up a mountain, have a run on a beach, or rent a kayak and explore around a lake. Immersing yourself in nature is a fantastic way to stay active, meet like minded people and destress whilst travelling.

Protect Your Skin

Having a tan is great, but sunburnt skin is not! Protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays no matter where you are. The sun's rays are strongest between 10 am and 4 pm. So make sure to find a shady spot to relax and cool down during this time. Pack a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses that block UVA/UVB rays. But definitely don’t forget sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.

Keep Hydrated

Hydration is crucial, especially when travelling. Changes in climate and tiredness from sightseeing and the air the in aeroplane cabins can all lead to dehydration. Invest in a reusable water bottle with you and refill it at every opportunity. However be mindful of the water quality in the country you’re visiting. In some countries, it may be safer to stick to bottled water. Also limit sugary drinks and caffeine as they can also contribute to dehydration.

Eat Well To Fuel Your Travels

Go to local food markets for fresh fruits and vegetables and incorporate them into your meals whenever possible. They are packed with vitamins and minerals, which are crucial for keeping your immune system strong during travel. For food on the go, pack snacks that will give you sustained energy. Think nuts, granola bars and dried fruit.

Practice Self Care

Travel shouldn't be all go-go-go. Schedule downtime for relaxation and selfcare. Pack a good book, unwind with music, or spend some time by the pool. Journaling, meditation or yoga can also work wonders for de-stressing and letting go. Having down time will recharge your batteries and get you ready for more adventures!

Embrace the Present

The constant urge to document every minute of your travels can be strong, but don’t let social media steal your experience. Embrace a digital detox, put down your phone and truly be present. Immerse yourself in your surroundings, take in the culture, and engage with the people around you. You’ll thank yourself for this later.

By following these hacks you can ensure your travels are enriching and enjoyable. Remember, a healthy body leads to a happy mind, and a happy mind is open to new experiences. So, pack your bags, embrace the unknown, and get out there. If you’re thinking of travelling solo for the first time, check out our Travelling solo guide. Safe Travels!
